Implementation of the environmental goals of the Port of Oulu – using carbon-neutral district heating
The Port of Oulu switched to using carbon-neutral district heating from the beginning of April 2024. This step supports the Port of Oulu’s goal towards carbon-neutral operations. According to the energy producer, carbon-neutral district heating is produced entirely with renewable energy sources and waste heat. This includes, for example, wood-based fuels and recovered waste heat.
The port house was heated with oil until October 2022, when it was switched to district heating. The CO2 eq of the port house house heating was reduced by 32% from 2022 to 2023.
After a year and a half of switching to district heating, the port made a decision to switch to carbon-neutral district heating.
