Port of Oulu and Verso Energy signed a cooperation agreement

The port of Oulu and the French company Verso Energy have signed a cooperation agreement, the purpose of which is to build a hydrogen processing plant in Oritkari, Oulu, which will produce 80,00 tons of synthetically produced aviation fuel (eSAF). The cost of the plant is 1.4 billion euros and according to Verso Energy, the plant should employ 250 people.

The plant to planned be built in the Oritkari harbour area will be the largest plant designed for hydrogen processing in northern Finland so far in terms of capacity. The signing of the agreement means that the port of Oulu will build one of Finland’s largest green energy ports.

The agreement was sealed between Verso Energy and the Port of Oulu on Thursday 13 February 2025 at the Northern Power event in Oulu.

The city of Oulu also signed a cooperation agreement with Verso Energy. This being a city, the needs and goals of Verso Energy and Oulu will be matched in cooperation with the site plan of the green transition industrial area of ​​Orkari harbor and the city.
